Requirements

To be eligible for Maltese citizenship under the Individual Investor Programme of the Republic of Malta, applicants must:

1

make a contribution of minimum €650,000 to the Maltese Government, which is deposited in the National Development and Social Fund;

2

lease property in Malta for a minimum value of €16,000 per annum, or purchase property for a minimum value of €350,000; and

3

acquire €150,000 worth of Government Bonds or bonds/ securities listed on the Malta Stock Exchange.

The property and the bonds/securities have to be held by the main applicant for a minimum period of 5 years.

Further, the main applicant must provide proof that s/he has been a resident of Malta for a period of at least 12 months preceding the day of the issuing of the certificate of naturalization.

In addition, all applicants must be free from criminal record, fraud, malpractice, financial fraud or indemnities.

Process

According to the Malta Individual Investor Programme Agency (MIIPA) the application process to acquire Maltese Citizenship is very stringent; taking around 12 months to complete. It starts with the submission of an e-Residence Application and ends with the issuance of a certification of naturalisation. Important Points to Consider

Applicants must provide proof that s/he has been a resident of Malta for a period of atleast 12 months preceding the day of the issuing of the certificate of naturalization.
